Alyssa was the little sister of Shane, who died in a house fire caused by Monica. She was only 12 at the time. Shane feels guilty for her death because he couldn't open her door because the fire made it too hot. He was dragged out of the house and hopes that Alyssa died in her sleep so she didn't feel any pain. This has made Shane hate Monica with a passion ever since.
